In 2005, there were many events that took place both positive and negative alongside the 50+ companies that decided to hit the stock exchange for the first time. However, two major world events had a lasting impact.

Hurricane Katrina: In late 2005, one of the most destructive hurricanes hit the US. Hurricane Katrina caused massive devastation along the Gulf Coast, particularly in New Orleans. The storm resulted in the loss of thousands of lives and extensive damage to infrastructure.

London bombings: In 2005 there were coordinated terrorist attacks in London that targeted the city’s transportation system during rush hour. This resulted in the deaths of 52 people and injuring over 700. Four suicide bombers carried out the attacks.
